My Sassy Girl is a film with a classic narrative of the boy meets girl - boy loses girl and of course they end up together at the end. This movie has a wonderful twist, the woman takes the takes of the classic gendered male. She is aggressive angry and takes full control. She is a strong female lead and I am very happy that she is here. The man is a complete pushover and he does anything that she tells him to do. anything from wearing heels to being the human punching bag he puts up with everything.
She is quite an unlikeable character due to her rudeness and constantly getting drunk and passing out. I do enjoy the fact that she is a strong female lead but I don't understand why i dislike her personality so much. She is superior to Geyong Soo and she definetly wears the pants in their relationship. The scene in which they are both on the train as people walk on the red line she gets to hit him is showing how her superior complex is Pareil in Geyong Zoo's mother who always uses violence in every single scene when he comes home. I wonder if it's because he is so used to his mother hitting him that he doesn't mind being hit by "the girl". Even though the director is promoting her character as being strong and active he never gives her character a name in the film which could perhaps mean that his view is not towards women being more in
Another scene which troubles me is the scene in which she passes out and Geyong soo takes care of her. He watches her sleep and she acts so innocent in comparison to how she acts when she is awake. Is this scene trying to compare her character to having a sort of innocence ?
